Control Sector is considered as one of the most important sectors of ADAFSA. The sector is responsible for enforcing laws and regulations related to food safety in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, in coordination with other concerned competent authorities.
The sector is keen on working continuously to develop control mechanisms and procedures which are clear and transparent in nature and compliant with Abu Dhabi Government’s aspirations in the guaranty and security of safety of food supply in addition to implement the standards and criteria approved by the country in the food irrespective of whether they are produced locally or imported through airports, sea ports and land boarder points. In the course of implementing those control procedures, the Sector rely on the systems based on risk levels as well as system No. 6 of 2010 pertaining to Food Hygiene throughout the Food Chain which requires any food facility , such as factories, hotels or catering companies, to implement Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points system (HACCP) in order to ensure that all kinds of food stuffs handled in the emirate doesn’t cause any harm to the health and safety of consumers.
The control sector is also supervising the performance of Essential Food Safety Training Program (EFST) to improve the level of food establishments as well as to ensure food safety throughout the food chain through offering consultations and awareness programs.
The sector has always been keen on delivering the best services to its strategic partners either the establishments' owners or the public through automating the services, such as export certificates for food establishments, export validity certificate, promotional campaigns and registration of complaints against food establishments, inspectors and employees.
Also the sector has a great role in the prevention of food poisoning cases as the inspectors guide and mentor food establishments' staff during their routine visits and campaigns on how to perform preparation, serving ,display and transportation of food according to the best hygienic measures. Inspectors also do supervise the condemnation process of food items that found not suitable for consumption and recall products which are not compatible with set standards and criteria.
The control sector implements Rapid Food safety Alert System in cooperation with Policy and regulation Sector in order to facilitate fast sharing of information pertaining to food between various countries which helps them take necessary preventive measures to prevent entry of food stuff that represent risk to human health.
The Animal Control Division at the Sector carry out inspections on the primary food production facilities such as animal production farms (cattle, camels, sheep, poultry and aquaculture and small-producers' farms, also on meat establishments (meat shops, red meat slaughterhouses, poultry slaughterhouses) veterinary facilities ( veterinary hospitals, clinics, laboratories, pharmacies a, drugstores and consultancy offices)and feed establishments ( feed mills and shops).
It the responsibility of The agricultural control division at the sector to ensure that agricultural laws- both local and of federal- are enforced in the farms and agricultural trading establishments through executing routine inspections according to the approved annual plan and by integrating inspection procedures to guarantee smooth and sustainable enforcement of aforesaid laws in utmost fairly manner in the way of fulfilling ADAFSA's aspirations that focus on raising the quality levels of agricultural outputs , safety of products and finally ensuring a sustainable agricultural environment in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
