Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) announced its participation in "Weekend at the Oasis" activates, organized by Department Of Culture And Tourism - Abu Dhabi, from 19th to 21st December, at Al Ain Oasis, one of the most important inscribed sites on UNESCO's World Heritage List. ADAFSA's participation features a market for farmers to showcase their high-quality local agricultural products.

As part of its efforts to promote sustainable agricultural development and raise the economic return for farmers, ADAFSA affirmed the importance of supporting farmers by creating marketing channels for their various crops, thus enhancing the competitiveness of local products. The authority also encourages farmers to apply the best agricultural practices to improve farming productivity, to ensure increasing market share of local products to meet customers' needs, and to consolidate the food security system.

In addition to its stands for showcasing non-organic products, ADAFSA allocated five stands for selling locally-produced organic products, which highlights the great development experienced by Abu Dhabi in adopting organic agriculture systems. This aims at introducing the oasis' visitors to the importance of organic farming in preserving natural resources and ecosystem, as well as producing safe and high nutritional value crops using environmentally-friendly inputs.

Furthermore, ADAFSA will educate farmers to the importance of utilizing the advanced farming systems and applying good practices in improving products' quality and ensuring efficient use of agricultural inputs.

Within its efforts to realize sustainable agricultural sector and ensure food safety in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, farmers' markets are one of ADAFSA's important means to support Abu Dhabi's farmers and enable them sell farm produce directly to customers. Organized throughout the year, these markets are important in promoting local products and increasing its competitiveness. In farmers' markets, fresh vegetables and fruits, and other locally-produced products are sold to consumers across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
