Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority has, in the first phase of its fourth vaccination campaign against diseases affecting the livestock that began last October, administered vaccinations to 1084000 goats, sheep and cows.

The first phase of the campaign has vaccinated, between October 7 and December 31 last year, 899,655 goats, sheep and cows against foot and mouth disease, in addition to 184,624 sheep against kaft disease. The campaign covered all regions of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Mohamed Jalal Al Rayssi, Director of Communication and Community Service division at ADFCA, said the campaign would continue until April this year, and would vaccinate against a host of diseases such as PPR, sheep pox.  "The objective is to make sure the animal production in the emirate remains free from all possible dangers. We aim to continue the campaign throughout the year so the animals reach a level of total immunity as per the recommendations of international organizations," he pointed out.

Al Rayssi called upon all animal farm owners and livestock managers to cooperate with the veterinarians executing the campaign and to keep the animals ready for the vaccinations. "The vaccination campaign is integrally linked to the Animal Identification and Registration System as livestock owners who have not registered their animals will not be eligible for the services," he added.
