During a pre-Eidul Fitr two-day inspection campaign on various food outlets in Al Ain, inspectors of Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) ordered the destruction of 23 kilograms of food products found unfit for consumption in Al Ain, charged 4 outlets for violations and issued 7 warnings.
Targeting a total of 81 food outlets in Al Ain, including super and hyper markets, bakeries, dates shops and vegetable sellers, the campaign was aimed at ensuring that the celebrations of Eid in the city would not be marred by food-related accidents. The violations were mostly in storing food, lack of documents confirming the validity and quality of food items and general hygiene.
Mohamed Jalal Al Reyaysa, Director of Communication and Community Service at ADFCA said the campaign focused on a number of major issues such as the dates of manufacturing and expiry of food products on display. "The purpose was to maintain the levels of compliance achieved through rigorous campaigns and inspection visits during the before Ramadan. We do not want carelessness to set in once the festivities begin," he explained.
