Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority has revealed that the total number of meals being served at labor cities in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi reached 846 per day. The 14 labor cities in the emirate house 282000 workers and they are served food under the supervision of ADFCA.

ADFCA has pointed out that a number of measures have been taken by the Authority to respond to the increase in the number of labor cities in the emirate, which is predicted to reach 34, housing 602000 workers, requiring a million and 656000 meals a day and increased monitoring measures. ADFCA stressed the importance of coordination with the authorities administering the labor cities.

ADFCA said some of the labor camps were having the meals for the workers served by local restaurants instead of by catering units licensed for the purpose, but all the camps have now been asked to stick to licensed caterers. Adherence to the rules and regulations in this regard will protect the workers from food poisoning and other hazards, as only the catering units and not the smaller restaurants have the infrastructure to prepare and serve food safely for large numbers of people.
