A sub-regional delegation from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations recently visited Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA0 and was briefed on the Authority's agricultural policy document which was prepared by the Policy and Regulation Sector.
The delegation, consisting of a number of officials from FAO's Abu Dhabi office, met with the policy team of ADFCA, which included HE Rashed Al Shariqi, ADFCA Director General, HE Dr. Mariam Hareb Al Yousuf, Executive Director of Policy and Regulation and HE Mubarak Al Mansouri, Executive Director of Agriculture Affairs.
The Director General welcomed the delegation and explained the accomplishments of the Authority in regard to legislation and policy development related to Abu Dhabi Government outcomes tasked to the Authority, especially in the wake of the transfer of agriculture and animal wealth sectors to ADFCA's jurisdiction.
Dr. Mariam Hareb made a presentation detailing the various phases of policy preparation on agriculture and food safety in the emirate. She explained the objectives, principles and strategic framework of the policies.
The delegation praised the policy document and its prescriptions for achieving food safety and environmental sustainability for farming in the emirate. Members of the delegation stressed the FAO's preparedness to offer cooperation to concerned authorities in the country and ADFCA in efforts to implement the policy in a way that becomes a model for the region.
