In an inspection campaign last week targeting fishmongers and poultry and meat shops in Al Ain, inspectors of Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) destroyed 10 KG of prawns and issued three warnings.

The campaign, done in the presence of media persons, focused on Za'faraana market, central market and hypermarkets. The shop at which the rotten prawns were captured had been issued a final warning due to the bad food safety practices.

Ali Yousuf Al Saad, Acting Director of Communication and Community Service at ADFCA, pointed out that the campaign was meant to prepare the food market for the coming summer months, during which food risks usually become more severe. "ADFCA follows risk-based inspection system, which is quite effective and efficient compared to the conventional system of food monitoring.

Al Saad called upon the general public to get in touch with the Authority via its toll free number 800555 in case they noticed any bad practices and violation of food safety rules in food outlets.  They could also contact the Authority via facebook and twitter (facebook/adfca1 and twitter/adfca.
