General Instructions for submitting Samples for Laboratory Analysis

- Samples should be collected in the container and size appropriate to the intended analysis/test. For further information related to the sample container and size, do not hesitate to contact the Veterinary Laboratories Division.

- The sample container should be clearly labelled with a reference number, and submitted with laboratory requisition form.

- Samples should be submitted to the laboratory as soon as possible after being collected. If this is not possible, it is recommended to refrigerate them (AVOID FREEZING!).

- Samples for microbiology tests should be collected where possible before starting treatment with antibiotics and/or any other drugs.​

Laboratory results and their traceability to the animal may be influenced by the sampling technique /procedure and the accuracy of labeling the samples; therefore the responsibility of the veterinary laboratory is confined to the sample status at the time of receipt and the information provided to the laboratory.
