Agriculture is the largest consumer of freshwater in the world. A significant impact can be made in addressing water security by saving just 5% of this water. Researchers at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) have developed a superhydrophobic sand that assists in stopping the evaporation of water in agricultural settings. This superhydrophobic sand is also a cheap and accessible solution for farmers in semi-arid and arid regions of the world.
