King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) is leading groundbreaking precision agriculture research that monitors crop health and water use more closely than ever before through data collected by novel technologies like unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and nano-satellites. This technique can help to achieve more sustainable use and management of global water resources by providing farmers with accurate real-time information on crop health and productivity. Yoseline Lopez, a Ph.D. student at KAUST will discuss how hyperspectral imaging and artificial intelligence are improving efficiency and sustainability improvements for farming. Her research group is pioneering the use of UAV remote sensing for vegetation monitoring and stress detection at high spatial, spectral and temporal resolution.
