ChickenBoy: a farmer assistance system for animal welfare and farm productivity
The ChickenBoy is a robotic farmer assistance system. It is the world-wide first ceiling suspended robot that aims to assess aspects of animal welfare and help farmers increase farm productivity. At the current stage, the ChickenBoy measures climatic conditions (temperature, relative humidity, CO2 and air speed), examines excrements using artificial intelligence, finds dead birds and defective nipple drinkers and identifies wet spots in the litter. Farmers access the robot via a cloud-based user interface or subscribe to one of the 15 available alerts that sends messages directly onto the farmers phones. We have created a full-scale economic model of farm performance to assess the impact of the ChickenBoy on farm productivity and to convince farmers that higher welfare can mean higher profits. In this contribution we will present the current state of the development with results from European farms.
