ADFCA launches surprise visits to food establishments in Musaffah Industrial area

As part of its efforts to raise and keep the food safety levels high in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority(ADFCA) has recently launched a series of surprise visits to the food establishments including restaurants, markets and storage houses  in Musaffah Industrial area.

The visits on the markets ended up with issuing 11 warnings and 3 fines in addition to seizing and destroying  560 kilograms of food products for not meeting with the standards. The Inspectors found one facility to have met all the standards and requirements while they handed over notice to three shops.

Out of 65 restaurants ADFCA inspectors visited during the inspections, 13 were found to be fulfilling all the terms and conditions. Three restaurants were imposed with fines  for violations while 36 were given warnings.  Inspection team issued notices to 13 restaurants while they seized and destroyed food items amounting 33 kilograms for not complying with the standards.

The team visited total five storage houses in the area in which one found to be meeting with all ADFCA requirements. Warnings were issued to three storages while the remaining one was given notice by the inspectors.

In the wake of latest inspections, Mohammed Jalal Al Rayssi, Director of Communication & Community Service Division commented: "The objective of our inspection campaigns - both the routine and the surprise ones- is to guarantee the availability of safe and healthy products to public. It also helps us to check the violations and wrong practices as well as gives us chance to directly monitor the commitment levels of establishments in fulfilling ADFCA's food safety requirements and standards."

It is noted that ADFCA has adopted a stringent mechanism to carry out inspection on food establishments in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. The inspectors use high-tech equipments to inspect safety and quality levels of food products available in the market. Officials would confiscate and destroy products immediately, if any items found not suitable for human consumption.
