Workshop on the Management of Emergencies in Food Sector

Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) organized a workshop on "Management of Emergencies in the Food Sector" at the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr Hotel. More than 100 people representing various food establishments attended the event.

The event was held in line with the decree of His Highness the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi (No. 42 of 2009) in regard to the Environment, Health and Safety Management System. The objective of the event was to introduce the role of ADFCA as the coordinating authority for the system in the food sector. The role of ADFCA involves constantly imparting information and awareness on occupational health and safety and safe work environs to food establishments.

The workshop was aimed at providing food sector establishments with the necessary knowledge and tools to enable them to deal with emergencies effectively. The workshop took up a number of topics, including the management of emergencies in the food sector, identification of emergencies, training of staff, first aid, dealing with fire and food-related emergencies.

A number of food establishments were selected for the implementation of the EHS System based on risk, number of staff, diversity of activities and the customer turn out. They will be granted a period of six months to develop an EHS System specific to them. This will have to be done either by themselves or in consultation with companies approved by the Abu Dhabi Centre for Environment, Health and Safety.
