Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) has participated in the "Honey Made in UAE" Conference and Exhibition held from 30th November to 4th December at Rotana Rahyaan Khalidiya Palace.
The participation of ADFCA came in the form of sponsorship to financially support some small-scale projects related to honey products as well as in the form of knowledge sharing with regards to research, production and health aspects of the domain.
During the activities, Dr. Denis Les Anderson of ADFCA delivered a lecture about Varroa mites which are recognized as the biggest pest to honeybees worldwide.
Many experts and business persons in the domain attended in the event which aimed at developing the local honey production sector.
The event underscored honey’s cultural and economical importance as well as highlighted its position as a food and medicine.
Also, the conference and exhibition featured the honey production as a prime area for Small and Medium Scale Industry (SMIs) which brings in quick monetary returns and helps local economy to open up to global arena with a focus on self dependence and use of renewed resources.
