As part of its efforts to maintain the overall food safety levels of Abu Dhabi emirate and as part of guaranteeing supply of safe food to students, Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority ( ADFCA) has launched recently an inspection campaign on bakeries in various parts of Abu Dhabi emirate, which are supplying food items to school canteens.

The campaign was a joint move by various ADFCA food control units in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Western Region.

"The objective of the inspection campaign was to confirm if bakeries supplying food items to schools are operating in compliance with ADFCA rules and food safety requirements" said Mohammed Jalal Al Rayssi, Director of Communications & Community Service Division of Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority in this regard.

"We are committed to ensure that only safe food is supplied to our school canteens" he said further.

According to him, the inspections were carried out in the morning hours in order to closely watch practices followed in the facilities while preparing food for school canteens.

He said, during the campaign,  inspectors found certain shortcomings with regards to general cleanliness as well as some other food safety-related faults such as keeping products in plastic covers, heaping up food items and using cheese that don't carry product labels on it.

Workers were given instructions by ADFCA inspectors on good practices to be followed while preparing and handling food items at the facilities.
