HE Adel Khalfan Al Zaabi, Executive Director of Animal Wealth at Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA), inaugurated a three-day study session on the safety of food of animal origin that the Authority organized in association with the International Organization for Animal Health. Al Zaabi stressed the commitment of the Government of Abu Dhabi to the safety and security of all the people residing in the emirate and to their access to safe and healthy food.
"ADFCA was set up to ensure the safety of food from the farm to the fork. ADFCA's successful efforts at ensuring animal health included prevention programs against diseases transmitted to humans from animals, awareness programs for animal breeders and veterinary personnel and the animal identification and registration program aimed at facilitating traceability," he explained.
Al Zaabi pointed out that all the farms, slaughterhouses, butcheries and other manufacturing units were regularly inspected to ensure complete compliance with the rules and regulation. "I would like to thank His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of ADFCA for the full support provided to the Authority. I also thank all the experts and participants who graced this occasion with their presence," he added.
The event also saw a meeting of representatives of food safety bodies from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Jordan, Lebanon and the UAE. The meeting deals with various subjects, including the role of veterinary services in food safety, major causes of diseases in animals, importance of cooperation between veterinary establishments and food manufacturers, salmonella, poultry diseases, risk management and so on. Experts from OIE and WHO are present to lead the discussions and present ideas.
