The Strategy & Performance Sector of Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) has launched its food safety awareness program for school students which is known as 'Junior Shopper" for the third academic term. As part of the initiative, the officials at Awareness & Education Section has interacted with students through a number of lectures in schools in Al Ain recently, with the cooperation with ADFCA's Food Control Division.

During these programs, the officials selected three excellent students for carrying out field inspections on school canteens along with ADFCA inspectors.

The inspectors would train the selected students (junior Inspectors) about the basic methods of inspection by which food safety is ensured at school canteens. The students would be educated on the procedures stipulated in the Food Law No.2 of 2008 as well as regulations & systems affiliated to it before going to inspect the selected canteens. The inspectors would observe the students examine the documents and registers and would watch how they would inspect how food is stored in line with the requirements and regulations. The inspectors also would support the juniors in checking health requirements and specifications and in explaining the safe practices to the facility staff.

ADFCA is learnt to be aiming a better food safety awareness method for young generation by creating a platform for them to practically indulge in food inspection activities in the field. Also, ADFCA sees it as an effective way to improve the food safety levels in school canteens.

ADFCA has plans to expand the reach of The 'Junior Inspector initiative to all parts of the emirate including the Western Region.
