ADFCA delivers veterinary services at Al Dhafra Festival

Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) is participating in the 10th Al Dhafra Festival which is considered one of the biggest heritage events held in the Western Region annually. The Authority will deliver all kind of veterinary services to the animals participating in various activities of the event which is held under the kind patronage of HH. Shaikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and  Deputy Supreme Commander of UAE Armed Forces.

Thamer Al Qasemi, the spokesperson of ADFCA said in this regard, "the Animal Wealth Sector of ADFCA has set a full-fledged mobile veterinary clinic to ensure the safety and health of camels which are part of the event. Apart from delivering general veterinary services, the team will give a focus on detecting possible brucellosis infections in the camels. The veterinary team will roam around the festival premises visiting camel workers and camel tents to carry out tests and laboratory analysis and to prescribe medicines whenever needed"

He said a special team including doctors and technical staff has been formed for this purpose.

According to him, so far the ADFCA veterinary team has delivered veterinary services to 1851 livestock in the festival in 300 cases it received.

AlQasemi said ADFCA veterinary doctors have treated 868 camels and carried out surgery on one camel in addition to testing 857 camels to ensure they are free from any contagious diseases. Identification & registration services were given to 158 groups in which 980 animals benefitted.

According to Thamer AlQasemi, the team attended 11 kind of diseases in the animals participating in the fest so far.

He said, 200 animals have entered to the UAE from other countries including KSA, Oman, Kuwait and Qatar.

It is learnt that ADFCA has been active in disseminating awareness and education on various matters related to animal wealth including best management of farms, combating pests, best practices to manage and develop herds, disease control and nutrition for the animals, best ways to manage farm waste and selecting best breeds through its stand set in the festival.
