ADFCA partakes this year’s Abu Dhabi Science Festival with interactive awareness stand

In line with its policy to reach out to various sectors of the society, especially young generation, in order to impart food safety awareness, Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority has planned to be part of the upcoming Abu Dhabi Science Festival due to held between 12- 21 November.

ADFCA will set up an informative stall in the festival to perform a variety of awareness activities targeting children aged 6 -16 which consists mainly two interactive workshop that lasts for 10 to 15 minutes.

While commenting on this, Ali Yousef Al Saad, Acting Director of Communication & Community Service Division at ADFCA said: "It is our priority to participate in various events and festivals organized in the country in order to directly interact with the visitors to impart them with the latest knowledge in the field of food safety. We are interested to make partnerships and collaboration with government bodies as well as private sector organizations to jointly create opportunity to network with groups, special sections and general public to safeguard the food safety standards prevailing in the emirate and to take it to new dimensions in line with the development and economic growth in the society"

Mr. Ali said, Abu Dhabi Science Festival, now in its fifth edition, has become a most visited annual event which aims to spark the imagination of the nation's youth in science and technology, encouraging them to pursue STEM subjects throughout their education and career choices.

He said given the festival's popularity and students' attraction to it, ADFCA sees it as a perfect platform to be in to draw the attention of young generation to the importance of food safety in an advanced and civilized society.

"Furthermore, being a festival that celebrates science and knowledge, no other venues comes as perfect as ADSF as we introduce them an important area of scientific knowledge and advancement which focuses on the food we consume" added Ali.

According to Ali, ADFCA will set up a stand that replicates a common grocery seen commonly in Abu Dhabi emirate to be the practical venue for students to understand food safety knowledge. ADFCA officials will lead two type of interactive workshops targeting children aged between 6- 16, of which the first is titled as "Junior Inspector" and the other carries the name "Junior Shopper"

Explaining further about the workshops, Mr. Ali Al Saad said: "In the first workshop, the children will have the chance to play the role of an ADFCA official who inspects a grocery. Through the information briefed to him by the educators in the stand and the practical role play he would be carrying out, he would get a good understanding about safety of food in a funny and effective way. While going through the second workshop, where the visitor would act as an actual shopper, he would learn the smart shopping tips related to trolley hygiene, separating dry food and perishable food, what to pick first and what to pick only in the end, best placing of products in the trolley and finally the safe transporting of purchased food the way home" 

Ali said, distributions of publicity materials and other fun and recreational programs are also in the list of activities.
