ADFCA and Tadweer join hands to raise awareness on safe disposal of agricultural waste

Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority and Tadweer- the Center of Waste Management-Abu Dhabi have jointly started a campaign to raise awareness among farmers and farm owners about the importance of following safe practices for the disposal of the agricultural waste from farms in Abu Dhabi emirate.

 The joint campaign which will continue till next Wednesday will educate the sections related to agriculture about the negative impact of random disposal of waste on environment and the possible risk on human health.

 Seven teams consisting employees and technical staff from both of the entities have been formed to carry out the campaign who will meet concerned people to practically explain various safe methods to be adopted to dispose waste from the farms. The teams will also distribute leaflets and other publicity materials to the farmers.

It is learnt that the teams will mainly concentrate their campaign in agricultural zones of Abu Dhabi such as Al Sameih, Al Bahiya, Al Rahba, Al Ajban, Al Khatem, Al Nahda and Al Wathba as well as in the western, northern and southern sectors of Al Ain in addition to the agricultural zones inside the city.

On this occasion, Mohammed Al Fardan, Acting Director of Communication & Community Service Division of Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority commented: "We, both ADFCA and Tadweer, by carrying out this campaign, aim to ensure that farmers abide all federal and local legislations pertaining to agriculture and related activities in addition to educate them on best and safe agricultural practices that guarantee protection of environment and best use of resources while reducing the expenses"

"With ADFCA is continuously striving to ensure food safety in the emirate by playing its role best in the control activities over food and agriculture sectors, this campaign also will be a success in raising awareness among farmers about the safe and healthy practices to dispose waste"-Al Fardan hoped.

In his turn, Khaled Mubarak Al Blooshi, Head of Awareness Department at Tadweer  said: "I would like to thank Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority and Community Police for their participation in this important awareness campaign that targets farm owners and workers in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain city. This initiative aims to educate them on proper disposal of agricultural residues and waste from farms, large waste, and dead animals, and waste collection in the region-specific assembly points. Consequently, this helps in maintaining the cleanliness and general appearance of the Emirate, and developing a sustainable system to preserve the environment, in line with Tadweer's core values of sustainability, change, excellence and innovation, social responsibility, empowerment and care, and in accordance with Abu Dhabi Vision 2030 Abu Dhabi.

It is noted that, the campaign reflects ADFCA's keenness to create partnerships and cooperation with various stake holders to execute best control and inspections over the farms and agricultural production units operating in the emirate, which is instrumental to ensure health and safety of public as well as safety of food and agricultural produce.
