H.E. Rashid Mohammed Al Shariqi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority opened the Hosted Scientist Program which brought together some 300 scientists and experts from across 71 countries of the world to explore solutions to tackle the world hunger and under-nutrition caused by the scarcity of resources and climate change.
The Hosted Scientist Program was held on the sidelines of the second edition of Global Forum for Innovations in Agriculture which is going on at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center from 9th to 11th of this month under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of ADFCA.
During his speech, H.E. Rashid Al Shariqi underscored the importance of the GFIA 2015 as it serves as the world's largest showcase of sustainable agriculture solutions that hosts over 4,000 of the world's brightest minds to show the world how game-changing technologies can change the way the world grows food forever.
He pointed to the pivotal role scientific research has to play in developing the sustainable food and agricultural sector and cited the Hosted Scientist Program as a great step forward in this regard.
He said the Hosted Scientist Program, highly interactive in style, has been designed in collaboration with the Global Forum on Agricultural Research (GFAR).
'Focusing on critical issues such as food security, nutrition, climate change, women in agriculture and agri-biodiversity, the Global Forum is a unique platform for agricultural knowledge, innovation and enterprise communities, to work together to share information and ideas, to dialogue, and to build partnerships for action' he said.
He hoped that with a variety of sessions and special events dedicated to future agriculture, including the hosted scientist program, the GFIA will see a good number of knowledge communities from across the world meeting up with players from agricultural business and enterprises to make business deals for the future.
From his part, Mohamed Jalal Al Rayssi, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of GFIA and the Director of Communications & Community Services Division At ADFCA said: 'This highly scientific exercise aims at presenting scientific solutions during GFIA to develop an environment-smart agricultural sector and to meet the challenges raised in the form of decreasing resources. This will serve as a best platform where experts culminate to share their knowledge and experience to shape the future agriculture, equipped enough to ensure food security'
The hosted Scientist Program is organized as an important component of the bouquet of programs under the umbrella of GFIA and is sponsored by many organizations such as Food Security Center, Farmers Service Center, Ministry of Presidential Affairs, Al Dhahra and Exceed group.
