The Animal Wealth sector of the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) has organized in association with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN a workshop on the present state of fish farming in the UAE.
Director General of ADFCA HE Rashed Mohamed Al Shariqi, David Kori, expert on fish farming and aquaculture and a number of senior officials attended the workshop.
The workshop comprised a presentation on the role of ADFCA in licensing fish farms according to the safety and bio-security parameters laid down by the Authority. The workshop pointed out that regular inspections were carried out at fish farms as per the Integrated Management System and other rules and regulations governing bio-security and food safety.
The workshop also discussed ways and means of improving the licensing process for fish farms through bringing on board expertise in the field, training sessions, field visits to learn from international best practices and the adoption of the latest techniques even in smaller farms.
