Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) organized recently a workshop on 'the Implementation of the Abu Dhabi Environment, Health and Safety System' at small and medium food establishments in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The workshop was aimed at educating food establishment operators about the requirements of the system.

The workshop was held in line with the requirements of the decree No. 42 of 2009 issued by His Highness the Crown Prince on the EHS System and in ADFCA's role as the responsible government body for implementing the system in the emirate.

The workshop dealt with the entire range of issues pertaining to the EHS System, including accidents, preparedness for accidents, training for workers, potential risks and methods of risk management, rules and regulations in regard to EHS and the legislative framework as well as the minimum required levels of compliance.

A number of food establishments were chosen for the implementation of the system on the basis of risk factors, number of workers, diversity of activity and customer turn out. They will be given six months to develop an EHS system tailored to their specific situation either by themselves or by consulting companies approved by the Abu Dhabi Centre for Environment, Health and Safety.
