Inspectors of the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority's Al Ain branch conducted extensive inspections at confectionaries and bakeries in Al Ain. This was part of the summer inspection campaign launched recently by the Authority.

The inspections, which covered 18 bakeries and 11 confectionaries, resulted in the issuance of 5 violation slips and 10 warnings, besides the destruction of 166 KG of food items unfit for consumption.

Mohamed Jalal Al Rayssi, Director of Communication and Community Service at ADFCA, said that the Authority will closely monitor the outlets that have flouted the rules and committed violations. "The purpose behind our current campaign is to ensure that the holy month of Ramadan passes off without any untoward incidents. During the inspections, the inspectors paid special attention to the way the primary materials for food preparation were stored, in addition to the quality of the oils being used for making various sweets," he explained.

Al Rayssi said that the reason for focusing special attention on sweet shops and bakeries was in view of the large turnout of customers at these outlets during Ramadan and the Eid days. "We want to make sure that the increased sales during this period at outlets do not cause negligence on the part of the workers and the owners," he added.
