ADAFSA launches the localised and Customized version of Good Agricultural Practices Certification (ADG.A.P.)

​Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) designed and initiated a localised version of GLOBALGAP, called Abu Dhabi Good Agricultural Practices (AD G.A.P.) based on their experience in GLOBALGAP Certification. In order to ensure accreditation of the ADG.A.P. customized standard, an agreement has been signed with GLOBALGAP Germany. Under this agreement, ADAFSA will ensure the implementation of required standards for Good Agricultural Practices on farms in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi which is a cost-effective accredited certification for emerging markets inside UAE.

ADAFSA affirmed that "ADG.A.P. is a systematic approach toward sustainable Agriculture in Abu Dhabi. Our goal is to certify at least1500 farms by the end of 2022

ADG.A.P. certification will serve as a consistent guarantee that produce has been grown and harvested with attention to food safety and the environment, Farms under this scheme will receive assistance and guidance in improving the infrastructure, facilities and inputs on their properties and their labour force will be trained in all technical aspects including food and environmental Safety, farm workers health and welfare, and traceability of the products.

ADAFSA pointed out that  "The ADG.A.P. certificate to local produce is an important decision tool for our farmers, which includes clear guidelines to ensure quality supply of farm produce, provide accordance with international health standards, and allow greater opportunity for marketing of produce to suppliers who are interested in local produce that meet global food safety standards,"

The GLOBALGAP is International organization having 486 Producer and Supplier members.  The GLOBALGAP is a global partnership, bringing together likeminded parties with the shared vision of harmonizing Good Agricultural Practice worldwide. GLOBALGAP is a private sector body that sets voluntary standards for the certification of agricultural products around the globe. Certification serves as a consistent guarantee that produce has been grown and harvested with particular attention to food safety and environmental sustainability,"

The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) is a prime member of GLOBALGAP organization wherein, ADAFSA helped more than three hundred farms in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to implement the international Good Agricultural Practice and obtain the GLOBALGAP certification. The 144 farms obtained GLOBALGAP certificates through ADAFSA located in Al Dhafra Region, 90 farms in Al Ain Region and 66 farms located in Abu Dhabi Region.
