Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) organized an awareness lecture on the quality and safety of meat as part of the cultural season of the Development sector. Dr. Mansour Ali Abdul Latif of the Specialized Inspection department delivered the lecture in the presence of a number of veterinarians and other ADFCA staff.
The lecturer reviewed the reasons for meat contamination and rotting and the methods to preempt it. He also spoke about kindness to animals during slaughter and its importance in guaranteeing food safety.
He pointed out that the segments that are more susceptible to food poisoning are the elderly, pregnant women, children, those just cured of diseases and people deficient in immunity. He added that not washing hands properly, cross contamination and unhealthy food handling at home or food outlets are among the principal causes of food poisoning.
The speaker also spoke about controlling diseases transmitted from animals to humans by way of meat and meat products, in addition to the factors that help meat resist rotting. He stressed the importance of dealing directly with officially approved slaughterhouses and government bodies that provide veterinary examinations that guarantee food safety.
