ADAFSA will collaborate with private sector & NGOs to deliver:
• Awareness to the community aiming at behavioral changes within food safety and empowering consumers for informed choices
• Awareness and education on practices throughout entire food chain and primary production (hygiene practices, GAP etc.)
• Effective training for animal keepers and veterinarians to be able to identify the signs of diseases at an early stage
By empowering consumers and educating food industry we can decrease the level of risks, non compliances and reported food borne illness cases while enhancing the quality of life within the emirates.
We will work towards achieving this Priority through implement a mandatory Food Handlers Training & Certification Program as well as executing customized campaigns to newly defined key stakeholders/segments.
ADAFSA conducts many events to help create awareness in the market. These events include, but are not limited to: an annual forum, participation sessions such as the Gulf Day for Consumer Protection, food safety week events, school programs such as lectures and visits, and the food law symposium.
Creating a higher degree of awareness is essential to ensure that both consumers and the food industry understand the importance of food safety as well as the risks and implications to the Emirate and its residents of a lax approach to proper food control.
ADAFSA is currently working on a public relations campaign and has identified several stakeholders with which it needs to maintain a certain level of communication and education to achieve its goals.
This priority will contribute to government outcome of “Coordinated and efficient working relationships across areas of government”.
